Roderick Dorsey, of Orlando Florida, passed away February 24, 2019, at the age of 94.
Rod was born in Catania, Italy to WIlliam Roderick Dorsey and Isabella Kirsh Dorsey; while his father was stationed in China at the American Consulate at his birth.
Rod resided is Tshiftao, China for 5 years and then in Genoa, Italy for 3 years. Upon his father's retirement to the United States he resided in Baltimore, Maryland for a year, then moved to Orlando, Florida as a permanent resident.
Upon graduation from Orlando High School in 1943 he took a job with the U.S. Agriculture Department until called for service. Rod served in the Second World War during the Philippine Liberation campaign. He served the the first occupation Troop's in Oita, Japan until 1946, then returned home, due to his father's severe illness and ultimate death.
Rod attended the University of Florida for five years, graduating in 1951 with a B.A. in Architecture.
Rod worked for John Thomas Watson architects for 5 years, after obtaining his license, he joined Joseph E. Carlisle to form the firm of Carlisle and Dorsey Architects. Rod worked for his firm until the age of 76, at which time Mr. Carlisle died and the firm was closed.
Rod resided in Orlando at the time of his death. He was never married and had no children.
