The sudden loss of Russell “Buddy” Maher, is heavy on our hearts. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children Amanda, Matt, and Lindsey; his grandchildren Carson and Lilly; and his brothers Brian and Rick.
Buddy was preceded in death by his mother Jacqueline Maher, and his sister Deborah Ann Maher.
In his younger years, Buddy grew up in Orlando, went to Boone High School where he played basketball and baseball. He later attended Mississippi State where he played baseball. Following college, he worked his way up through the minor leagues and last played AAA baseball for the Chicago Cubs.
His adult life consisted of hard work at Sprint while raising a family. While working his way up at Sprint, he received his Bachelors degree in Business Administration.
Buddy will be remembered for his many exaggerations about his baseball and fishing skills. His family and friends refer to those exaggerations as “Buddy-isms.” He often told a tale that he struck out 27 batters for the win in a championship game. And would you believe that he caught a 25 pound bass on bass lake? Yah, us either. Those are things we hope everyone will remember him by.
We will all miss him and his stories dearly.
